Mission of SHIBERO.COM
12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” Isaiah 58:12
1. Mental Health Awareness and Care
Our Mental Health Ministry aims to create awareness on mental health issues and empower communities too accept mental illness as ‘normal’ state of life and show it can be managed. We set out to sensitize by giving out information that shows:
- There is nothing “wrong” with having a mental illness.
- People with a mental illness are not alone in what they are dealing with.
- People with a mental illness shouldn’t feel ashamed or forced to hide their mental illness symptoms and desire for effective treatment.
- Mental health stigma will no longer be tolerated
2.Separation and divorce support for hurting families
In providing such a service that supports the prevention of divorce in families, rebuilding of healthy families after divorce, a controversial issue in African communities, no doubt has opened the possibility of people, especially the church, to misconstrue the purpose of this ministry, in that it is maybe advocating for divorce, as so many African churches believe, and as I have been told on several occasions. Quite the contrary.
Our services are about dealing with the reality of whats going on in our communities regarding the state of community mental health and the breakdown of families and helping communities to heal and rebuild healthier selves and families.
In 2019, when the register closed on December 31 in Kenya, some 1,108 people had filed for divorce. It has become a big issue in our country and on the continent, and with women and children being the main victims of family breakdown, this is the group most affected by the oppression, stigmatization, and depression. How do we deal with all these families who are so broken? There is a great impact on mental wellness of individuals and families, especially on the women and children.
