Effects of Unhealthy and Unhappy Marital Relationships on Women’s Mental
Our spouses/partners can powerfully affect our ability to thrive in the world. Not only do they affect the way we feel, about ourselves but also the degree to which we believe in ourselves and whether we will attempt to achieve our hopes and dreams. Having a partner who fulfils our intrinsic needs can help us be highly functional at work, at ease and inspired in our hobbies, and compassionate enough to care for and nurture our children, enabling us to remain emotionally and physically healthier and live longer. When these needs are not met, it results in traumatic, toxic, unhealthy and unhappy couple relationships, affecting the whole family, often ending in separations and divorce.
Intimate relationships play a very big role in women’s mental wellness. Because women tend to take on the responsibility of keeping the relationship afloat, when the relationship breaks down, most women slide into serious depression.
