AMHFA CONSULTANCY TRAINING

African Mental Health First Aid (AMHFA) is an internationally CPD UK-certified and
recognized training, tailored for Africa, by Shibero Akatsa. Through a mix of group
activities, presentations and discussions, the AMHFA training courses are built around a
Mental Health First Aid action plan and tailored to organizations, schools, and
community groups, with a focus on educating, helping prevent, and breaking the stigma
of mental ill health on the continent of Africa.
Our courses and consultancies are community-led capacity building, nonclinical mental
health education programs, tailored to the African mental health story, which sadly,
reflects a history of inhumane treatment of people affected by mental illnesses, making
it a human rights issue. Our work is designed to teach people valuable lessons on
mental health education, enable communities to break the stigma and help those
affected, build mental wellness resilience skills and introduce individual mental wellness
self-care.
Courses are applicable to individuals, businesses, schools, and all organizations that
put people at the center of their activities, but primarily for those who have the
responsibility of managing teams, groups, children, and youth.
*Kindly note that going through AMHFA training does not qualify you as a mental health
first aider or trainer.

AMHFA LEAD TRAINER
Training is delivered by Ms. Shibero Akatsa, a qualified and certified Mental Health First

mental wellness and stress management consultant for 23+ years.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING TO AN
ORGANIZATION
As an organization, we want people on the continent of Africa to understand d the
importance of under, standing, identifying, and treating mental health disorders in,
schools, communities, and the workplace self-carefully through self-care. Let’s start by
addressing some common questions and providing clear answers.

RISK FACTORS OF MENTAL ILL HEALTH
Mental illnesses can be caused by genetic or biological factors, but especially
environmental factors like poverty and chronic stress in Africa. This is why many people
suffer from mental illness in our communities. Moreover, some people are more at risk
for developing mental health problems than others.
This is because they have a higher susceptibility to environmental causes that may lead
to a mental illness like chronic stress and other environmental factors. By identifying risk
factors, you can more easily determine the root cause of the mental illness and learn
how to support yourself and other individuals.
Through our training consultancy, we have a wider impact on communities and on
empowering them to in building mental health individual responsibility, educate
communities, and help break the stigma of mental ill health.
